What Else Has To Happen In This Country?

Updated: Aug 21, 2021

I want to address a few things head on in this brief post.

I am estranged from my parents over patriarchal abuses - Trump support was the last straw - and I will not dignify Trump supporters with my time or fellowship, so I can't really go to church in Texas. I will need to keep a safe distance from MAGA on the in-law side, I have discovered, as well.

Certain individuals in family have labeled Democrats, "evil," which is pretty dangerous, considering democracy gives US our many freedoms. I voted Democrat so we would get out of the hell we were falling into with that abusive crime boss the 81% evangelicals embraced.

So an in-law has decided that I'm such a disrespectful meanie she has to smear me as such to family who barely have had a chance to get to know me. (I know how all this works. I stand by everything I said.)

Some folks have never been told to their face they are actively harming people they were meant to love. They honestly do not care. That has been my hard lesson from the past four years. Standing up to bullies might not get you any closure, but it can be liberating.

It isn't just politics, and it isn't an issue I should have to be silent about. I must speak up.

And, apparently, according to an unhelpful message from my side of the family, I "do not really know" my own parents, because I think they approve of violence.

Well, yes. If you voted for Trump, you were absolutely prepared to minimize his appeals to violence. Tacit approval is still approval. Yes indeed I never really knew them, and it breaks my own heart we don't even believe the same. Because I actually believe Psalm 11:5.

And it is the height of arrogance and abuse to demand forgiveness without repentance.

How can any parent not care about their children's safety? How can you say you love your grandchildren, if you support the guy who encourages violent people where they actually live?

If you can vote for something evil, if you can minimize violence, just because it doesn't affect you where you live, from what I've studied in German, I'm pretty sure you could have voted Nazi and called it pro - life too.

So it did my heart good to see a politician from my birth state of Ohio call out what this abuse dynamic really is. Incoherence. Narcissism. Sickness. HOLY COW.

And a lot of US are really worried what it will take before these Trump supporters / voters will be in any way sorry for what they have done to their own children's futures.

Does it have to be a genocide? A massacre? Aren't death threats for free speech bad enough? Isn't an assault on our government to destroy our votes and steal an election serious enough? Aren't twisted, abusive lies in service of a known abuser of sex, power and ordinary Americans, bad?

A lot of US predicted violence in 2015. Because we studied things like this and read a lot. And peaceful, ordinary, freedom-loving folks who like competent government and respect law enforcement are the bad guys in this? Seriously? What else has to happen, before these abusers of US are finally repentant and stop ridiculously blaming their victims?

Holy cow indeed.
