Watching the American evangelical church whore itself out to Christian nationalism rather than loving their neighbor enough to wear a mask during a pandemic has broken my heart.
Their focus on power and control - even to the point of civil warmongering - rather than love and service has destroyed my faith in their humanity. Any hope I had for reconciliation is now gone. Their disrespect for the most vulnerable and all those who grieve, is vomitous.
There are no words. I cannot fellowship with these people ever again. That includes loved ones I feel I must grieve and let go of now. They are lost. This grief is personal and complex.
This is Christmas, 2020.
Not only do we mourn pandemic; we live under the oppression of an arrogant "Christianity".
Not a bit of that changes the God who loved us enough to humble himself and walk with us.
If my heart is broken, imagine how much more must God's heart be.
Truly He taught us to love one another;
Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother,
And in his name all oppression shall cease,
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful Chorus raise we;
Let all within us praise his Holy name!
