I wasn't going to write tonight, but the truth needs to be re-shared, because the Christians in America have forgotten it: not all the Christians, not me, but a majority of evangelicals and many "pro-life" Catholics, the New Apostolic movement and the "cessationist" fundamentalists, all the Christians who embraced Trump and followed his evil lead.
This goes way beyond politics or religion: this is a wicked, depraved death cult. If they really loved their country they wouldn't obfuscate or critique those who call them to account. If they really loved their country there wouldn't be singing in their churches, but repentant prayer. The sermons have got to go; they have no authority to preach at anybody now. They put in their lot with murderers, and became worse than animals, not anything like my God.
It intrigues me that these evangelicals I grew up with think I am the one who is in the wrong for leaving them, when I have tried to warn them what they were becoming on multiple occasions. It seems to me now that my awareness, based on the lessons of the Third Reich I studied, was on point, and they were wrong to push me out. They should have put MAGA out of their churches. These people have no dignity and were prepared to destroy their country for a sick narcissist. Many defend Trump still, and argue our anger is over-reaction. But MAGA wanted to commit murder. There is no getting around that now.
It was clear in the online abuse and violent threats...
"Anyone who hates ... is a murderer, and you know no murderer has eternal life in them..."
For what it's worth, this isn't an "I told you so." This is deep grief, at what my former faith community has become. I grieve and lament their fall; they are hateful, wicked, and evil, and they are most offended that I say so plainly. And I am not prepared to sugar coat it.
Because this is not ok, and many evangelicals bear responsibility for enabling it.
Too many evangelicals I have interacted with have seared consciences and do not care how this traumatized US. A gallows is not art; it is a death threat. How could we trust MAGA Christians now? MAGA acted no different than any other religious extremist group, on J6!
(And though it is a minor issue, I'll never forgive them for ruining worship songs for me.)
